As General George Custer’s expedition left the Black Hills, they camped here.
Some ghost towns with no evidence remaining are the Carwye Ghost Town and the Repass Ghost Town. The Piedmont Ghost Town is still active.
Hiking areas you may be interested in include: Little Elk Creek Trail, and the Natural Maze.
Water features in this area include: Dalton Lake, Deadman Creek Water Crossing, Elk Creek and Little Elk Creek.
To explore the Black Hills National Forest or ride the Mickelson Trail, Deadwood Outdoor Rentals is your perfect destination.
A favorite locations for most riders is the Nemo Flagpole. A memorial flag in this area is called the Piedmont Flagpole.
“Buried with his head down/just as he fell/the whispering pines/will never tell”, is detailed on the headstone here, for Curley Grimes.
With a little bit of a hike you can visit the famous Horsethief Cave.
