Standoff Bar Gold
Did John Allen find gold in a quantity from 10 cents to $1.00 to the pan?
The story goes, that after the Custer Expedition, the government sent into the Black Hills a Scientific Expedition. The recorder of the expedition was John Allen. In his report for August, 1875 he states that “after prospecting a short time we moved to Spring Creek or Jenny Gulch and found gold in quantity from 10 cents to $1.00 to the pan. We prospected the Standoff Bar. This was about a Mile up Jenny Gulch.
This is not the location of the bar, but is as good a place as any to stop your ride to ponder the Sandoff Bar Gold treasure.
